Mark Zuckerberg Warns Against Taking Screenshots on Facebook Messenger

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, has warned users about taking screenshots in Messenger chats, especially in end-to-end encrypted conversations. Now, if someone screenshots a disappearing message, the other person will receive a notification.

This update, announced in January 2022, follows Messenger’s introduction of disappearing messages—a feature where sent messages vanish immediately after being viewed. This feature is already common on apps like Snapchat.

Currently, the screenshot notification feature is available to Facebook users in the U.S. and is expected to expand to Europe soon. Instagram, also owned by Meta, will receive similar updates due to security concerns.

Despite the new feature, many users have pointed out ways to bypass the screenshot alert. Suggestions include using screen recording, taking photos with another device, or turning off Wi-Fi before taking a screenshot.

Some users expressed frustration, saying the company should focus on more important issues beyond virtual interactions. One commenter emphasized the value of real human connection over digital features.

Zuckerberg’s post sparked over 94,000 comments, showing a mix of curiosity, humor, and criticism.

This change reflects ongoing efforts by social media platforms to improve user privacy but also highlights the challenges of balancing security and user behavior.
