Hero Dad Leaps Off Disney Cruise Ship To Save Daughter Who Fell Overboard

During a return trip from the Bahamas, a Disney Cruise turned into a nightmare when a young girl fell overboard—and her father leapt into the ocean after her.

The incident occurred on June 29 aboard the Disney Dream, a $900 million ship returning to Fort Lauderdale after a four-night cruise. Passengers reported hearing the ship’s emergency alert “Mr. M.O.B.” (man overboard) as panic spread across the decks.

Witnesses say the girl fell from Deck 4, which features a walking track with plexiglass safety barriers. Despite the ship’s speed and size, her father made a split-second decision to dive in after her, determined to keep her afloat as the ship moved away.

“We are on the Disney Dream and just witnessed a little girl fall overboard,” wrote passenger Dewayne Smith. “Her dad jumped in right after. The Disney crew responded immediately. Both were saved.”

Disney’s crew launched a yellow rescue boat within minutes. Battling choppy seas, the team reached the pair roughly 20 minutes later. Passengers cheered as father and daughter were safely pulled aboard.

“It was intense to watch,” recalled traveler Janice Martin-Asuque. “Everyone was praying. The relief was overwhelming when they were rescued.”

Disney Cruise Line praised its crew for their “exceptional skills and prompt actions,” highlighting the importance of their overboard detection technology and safety training.

This emotional rescue was a powerful reminder of a parent’s love—and the life-saving importance of trained staff and swift emergency response.
